Scriptures

"And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that I know of these things for myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety? 46. Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God... 48. I say unto you, that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name. 49. And now I say unto you that this is the order after which I am called, yea, to preach unto my beloved brethren."
-Alma 5:45-46,48-49
"Come unto Christ and be perfected in him and deny yourselves of all ungodliness."

格勒迪丝.耐赐 Gladys Knight

Hey!
What a great week this was! It just flew by! Mainly because we went to
the temple on Tuesday and then on Friday we went and saw Gladys Knight
and her Saints Unified Voices choir on Friday!
It was such an amazing spiritual event! Many of you may know Gladys
Knight from Gladys Knight and the Pips. Yes it is THE Gladys Knight.
And yes she did shake my hand! She is a member of our church, and she
came to Arcadia to sing to us and to bear her testimony of the church.
The spirit was so strong and I had never felt it in that way before.
It was as if our religion turned just 10 degrees baptist. People were
standing up and clapping and saying the old, "hallelujah, AMEN!"
Something I know I won't see again in our church building hahaha but
it made me so much more grateful for my Savior by expressing that
thanks in a different way.

Sister Gong loved it too. I translated some of what was said in the
vocabulary that she knew and a little in Chinese.... It was weird, but
it happened! Little miracles happening each day.

Also! Annett got baptized last week! Oh my goodness! I was so happy
that we ran into the Elders who are in Glendale!! They showed me a
picture of her getting baptized and I cried. She is Gigi and Justine's
neighbor. And we found her and taught her that day we were going to
split our area in Glendale. It was so cool to see the good results of
something that was so hard for us to do. And Annett is so amazing! She
had a lot to work on before she could be baptized but she did it! She
is such an example to me.

Let's see what else happened this week...... We are going to be
starting up English classes the first week of May. Which I am so
nervous for! Idk really what I'm doing when I'm teaching Sister Gong
English, but it seems to be helping her and I, so we will see where it
gets us in 3 months! Thank you for all those who have given me advice
on how to teach English, and the support and hope you have in us. It
really is giving me so much strength.

Well hope you had an amazing week!
Remember to say your prayers, read your scriptures, and be kind to
those around you.
God loves you, Jesus loves you, I love you!

勤勉 Diligence

Our mission scripture is- Doctrine and Covenants 4- Now behold, a
marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve
him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand
blameless before God at the last day.
Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;
For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that
thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store
that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul; And faith,
hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God,
qualify him for the work. Remember faith, virtue, knowledge,
temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity,
humility, diligence. Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be
opened unto you. Amen."
在看啊,一件奇妙的事工就要来到人儿女中
因此,你着手神服的人啊,你一定要尽心、尽能、尽意、尽力侍奉他,使你在末日能无可指地站在神面前。
因此,你若有侍奉神的心愿,就被召事工;
看啊,田地已白得可以收了;并且,看着,用力挥动镰刀的人,就是在藏,他就不会亡,却他的灵魂来救恩;
而且信心、希望、仁心,以及眼睛注于神的荣耀,使他有格担任事工。
住信心、美德、知制、忍耐、手足情、神性、仁卑、勤
祈求,你就得到;叩,就。阿

We recite this scripture every morning. It holds a lot of significance
to me, because I read Doctrine and Covenants 6 before coming on my
mission, and it answered my prayers about whether I should go on a
mission or not. Of course there were many answers that I got, but this
scripture has a special place in my heart.

So! Going a long with that Sister Gong and I worked our tail ends off
this week trying to find new people. Literally it got so frustrating
because well you know, people. BUT it was super rewarding!
We picked up 8 new people and 2 of them are super solid. Unfortunately
none of them are Chinese.

We met with Steven twice this week and are seeing him tonight. He is
super psyched about baptism and starting over. He loves God and Jesus
Christ but he knows what's going to be hard for him. I think it's so
amazing how self aware he is and we will lay out a plan for him
tonight to help him reach his goal.

So yesterday, was not our pday (obliviously, because I am emailing
y'all now). It was like 90 somethin degrees and I brought my ukulele
to block the sun and make the walk more enjoyable. Then this guy asked
us if we go around healing people with music. His name is Thomas. We
talked with Thomas for 3 hours! (In the shade). Usually when people
want to talk to us for that long I can tell it will be a while. So I
told him who we were, what we do, and then asked what he was searching
for, and he said "truth". And we were like "well that's perfect! We
got it!" We taught him almost every principle of the gospel. He
genuinely wanted to know, and that is what kept us standing there for
so long. We asked him what he wanted to do when he found truth, and he
said become a minister of the truth. He is so prepared, but it still
may take a while. He is asking all the right questions, now it takes
action and faith, which I know he has!
Please pray for Thomas, and Steven.

We have been praying with all our heart might mind and strength, to
try to find new people to teach.... Actually no. We have been praying
to find the elect people to teach. The people who want to hear what we
have to share with them. The people who want to exempt Christ in their
lives and live his teachings taught by prophets today. Diligent
prayer, and focus on work has brought so many miracles. Sister Gongs
English is improving so much! My Chinese is getting there (As you see
I had to practice the scripture above).

It's been a tiring week, and I love being tired in this marvelous work!

Chinese food for life! Btw. Went to the temple today! In two words-
LOVED it. There's no other feeling that matches with being inside the
temple. I will send more pics when I have an adapter!

救主 Service

Hey all!
This week was not too shabby!
It rained for half the week, and I even made Sister Gong bike in it
for a little while haha she did not like me after that! It was hard to
find people because of the rain and I guess the doors we knocked on
were just not sympathetic to soaking wet missionaries in their house.
Oh well what can you do? Well we learned Chinese and English! Sister
Gong is super adorable. English is so difficult but she is trying so
hard! I sneezed the other night and she said, excuse me. We were also
watching a Joseph Smith video and she said, I love you Joseph Smith.
And then when we were walking and I asked her if she liked music she
said I love you music!
I love my companion so much and though it's so hard to talk with each
other and communicate I learn that there is one language that we all
speak and that is service. Everyday this week I looked for every
possible way I could serve my companion, to make her feel comfortable
about English work and the language. It worked too! We were both
smiling and having fun, understanding that these acts show each other
that we love each other. I'm so grateful for the Savior and his
perfect example of service and charity. I love what Sister Marriot
said in the women's general broadcast, "Love is making space in your
life for someone else." I hope we all can follow the Savior’s example
this week and serve those around us, whether a neighbor, a family
member or stranger, everyone is going through something and can always
benefit from the love that comes through service.

Sister Gong made me some Egg and Seaweed Soup and it was delicious!

Letter to Mom with More Details about her New Companion and Members in the Huntington Area

Dear mom,
Sounds like an awesome conference weekend. So jealous! But mine was
good too! We went to a members house for all four sessions and even
went to a less actives house for priesthood session, to make sure he
watched it. The members made us breakfast burritos and waffles yum!
The members here are so wonderful, I am so grateful for them. Did I
tell you that we have this one member who we call Grandma because she
drives us to the store every p-day and buys us extra groceries some
days? And then she takes us to dinner. She is so funny and cute and
like a Grandma :)

Yep it was transfers this week. I'm staying and Sister Vaea is going
to Pasadena BUT we are still in the same apartment! She just has to
move rooms haha so funny she will probably stay in Pasadena now the rest of
her mission. My new companion is Sister Gong. She is from China. She
has been out for 14 months and doesn't know any English. So ya I just
met her today and communication is tough, but it is definitely
possible. It's like in Tarzan where they just act things out to
communicate hahaha it's fun.

Conference was in a word INSPIRATIONAL! I kinda have an idea of
what I'm going to do with my life after my mission now! I'm planning
on getting a general business degree and do internships from that
program that was talked about at conference-- the one with the British
guy (Elder Kearon). So that could lead to teaching kids English around the world or working for a humanitarian non-profit organization. Idk but that program could help me network and find my niche in that area. I still am praying about it to see if that's what I want to do so we will see!
I will send Jesse a card in the mail!
I love you!
